She understood it all: the way Ayumu smiled at Lanzhu, the tears in Lanzhu's eyes, and the way they embraced each other. She couldn't quite hear their conversation, but just looking at them, she understood. or at least, that's what she'd do if she didn't stop in her tracks at the sight of Lanzhu and Ayumu standing outside of the club room. Steeling her resolve, Yu runs to the old club room, joining the other members for their own little after-party, and where she'd finally do her confession. Unfortunately, even the modern miracle of trains couldn't save her from being tardy.īut she tried not to let it phase her there was still something she had to do. She immediately got ready, changing into her uniform before running to the station, taking the fastest route. One moment, she's setting seven alarms on her phone, and the next, it's already morning with twenty missed calls from the other members. She couldn't be late tomorrow.Īnd yet, Yu was. At the start of high school, Yu had promised herself that she would confess to Ayumu when they graduate, as a way to push through her own cowardice. Not just because it meant saying goodbye to Nijigasaki, but because of something else. The one thing she doesn't want to be late for is her own graduation. She was a few years late to discovering her own passion, but at least it was something she could rectify. She was a few days late-though at least she'd be able to join the reformed club.Īt the end of their first semester, thanks to the club, Yu realized that her passion was in music. Little did she know, the club had been closed and disbanded. Regular students shining brightly on stage to sing and inspire the audience set something in her ablaze as well, and she rushed to join the club in their school. When she first started her second year in high school, the first thing that caught her eye were school idols. Whether through coincidence, fate, or some god's idea of a sick joke, Yu didn't even arrive to her own birth on time. She remembers her mom telling her when she was younger that Yu was born late-term. Not just for events and occasions, but for everything. For some reason, Yu always finds herself being late to things. If she stopped to think about it, however, Yu would realize it was part of a pattern in her life. And with how long it'd taken to get here, this was just a little setback, right? She was just a few hours late. A shameful stare and hand-over of her diploma was about all she was going to get, but it wasn't nothing. Things could've gone better - and would have, had she not shown up to her own graduation late, missing the entire ceremony and most of the after-party.
